Bridging Gaps, Building Confidence: Apelo Cruz Elementary School's Summer Reading and Math Programs for Learners in Need

While many children spent their summer vacation playing and relaxing, a dedicated group of learners at Apelo Cruz Elementary School spent their days in classrooms, working hard to strengthen their skills in reading and mathematics. Through the school’s Summer Reading and Math Remediation Programs, students were given the opportunity to catch up and gain confidence in their learning.

The summer programs, designed especially for students who showed challenges in literacy and numeracy during the past school year, aimed to provide focused, engaging, and learner-friendly instruction. Teachers used fun and interactive strategies—such as games, storytelling, group activities, and learning stations—to help make lessons more enjoyable and easier to understand.

Small group sessions allowed for more personalized attention. Students who struggled with reading fluency, comprehension, or basic math operations received guidance tailored to their specific needs. Pre- and post-program assessments helped track each learner’s progress and celebrate improvements, no matter how big or small.

Parents also expressed gratitude for the program, noting how their children became more confident and motivated to read and solve math problems at home.

With the success of the 2025 summer program, Apelo Cruz Elementary School continues to prove its commitment to inclusive, quality education—where every learner is given a chance to grow, improve, and succeed.
