In line with the Department of Education’s nationwide tree-planting campaign, Apelo Cruz Elementary School proudly took part in the initiative titled “236,000 Trees – A Christmas Gift for the Children”, joining thousands of schools across the country in promoting a greener and healthier future for the next generation.

The activity, held on December 6, 2023, was spearheaded by the school’s very own Supreme Elementary Learners Government (SELG), alongside active members of the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Together with their teachers, school staff, and parent volunteers, they planted seedlings within the school grounds and nearby community spaces.

With tools in hand and hearts full of purpose, the young leaders and scouts worked side by side to plant various native and fruit-bearing trees. The event served not only as an environmental initiative but also as a hands-on learning experience, instilling values of responsibility, cooperation, and love for nature.

“This is more than just planting trees,” shared a SELG officer. “This is our gift to the environment and to the children who will one day enjoy the shade and fruits of these trees.”

The school also ensured that each planting area was marked and assigned for regular care. The SELG and scout members committed to monitor and water the trees as part of their ongoing service and leadership training.

This activity was aligned with the Project Pagbabago: A Million Trees Campaign, launched in partnership with the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). The campaign is part of DepEd’s effort to engage learners in meaningful actions that address climate change and promote environmental awareness.

By participating in this nationwide effort, Apelo Cruz Elementary School reaffirmed its commitment to holistic education—one that goes beyond the classroom and empowers students to become responsible citizens and caretakers of the Earth.
